Liszt Mephisto Music for piano solo complete Tibor Szász The American Liszt Society and The Peabody Conservatory of Music present THE 1984 FESTIVAL OF , the Piano Concerto No. 1 took Liszt a full 26 years to compose. He wasn't beavering away at it constantly, but sketches for the main themes were found in his notebooks as far back as 1830 - the premiere performance was in 1855 with Liszt himself at the piano. Have a look at this absolutely thunderous performance by Martha Argerich to get an idea of what range Liszt was capable of coaxing from the piano: The second piano concerto this time in A major didn't take 26 years to complete, but it was hardly a lightning-fast process. Franz Liszt composed his Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, over a 26-year period the main themes date from 1830, while the final version is dated 1849. The concerto consists of four movements and lasts approximately 20 minutes. It premiered in Weimar on February 17, 1855, with Liszt at the piano and Hector Berlioz conducting. The main themes of Liszt's first piano concerto are written in a sketchbook dated 1830, when Liszt was nineteen years old. He seems to have completed the work in 1849.
