Album

Sonic Continuum is a set of deep, lush minimalism from Rod Modell and Michael Mantra. The CD has two long-form compositions, each over 35 minutes. This is a different kind of organic ambience. Modell and Mantra build dense atmospheres from walls of sound. The walls consist of drones and samples interwoven with atmospheres. It is an exponential sound design Modell and Mantra are using the atmospheres to build the atmospheres. This somewhat enigmatic soundworld is hypnotic and psychoactive. The disc is an auditory gradient for changing states and is dedicated to the spiritual liberation. I recognized Rod Modell's name on the cover but have, over the two years since I purchased it, come to appreciate Michael Mantra's ethos with a growing veracity that is reinforced with every song of his I hear. Western society is visually oriented, and Sonic Continuum is an auditory key that unlocks the listener from these visual prejudices. "Vitamin M" is a fantastic piece of ambient music. Its gorgeous shifting chords anchor the track and allow the varied field recordings to sweep around you as the journey progresses. The chords are so simple, but so moving, that 35:00 passes in what seems like half that time. My first listen was on headphones while at work, and when I casually checked the time counter I found 19 minutes had already passed! That's the mark of a truly accomplished ambient production. "Vitamin K" is less engrossing, but only because it lacks the melodic nature of its predecessor. It's a darker, stormier piece, with more violent sounds worked into the field recording atmospherics (metal clanking, glass breaking, etc.). I like dark ambient music, but in this case I prefer "Vitamin M" for its warmth.

Highly recommended as a whole for any fan of ambient music.

Here, Rod and Michael produced one of the best ambient albums that I have ever heard. Incredibly meditative and full of beautiful sounds. Whether laughing people, airplanes, bells, the ocean, crickets, etc. All this sounds you can find here and they are hold together by an incredibly beautiful and specific space, where it is best to simply close your eyes. I personally prefer Vitamin M, because I find it most intensively.
This CD helps me to bearable every new day a little more. Get it!

Quite simply the absolute best ambient electronic music album I have ever heard.

Words don't do it justice, but I'll try anyway.

Listening to this album is an incredibly moving experience; its ultra downtempo, sublimely soaring & diving synthwork & staccato mechanical pulses woven against a background of superbly sampled soundscapes (both natural, such as marine/shore & thunder, as well as urban, such as muffled voices & cascading ceramic twinkling) will keep you entranced for the entire album's duration.

I can not recommend this mind-bending/expanding album enough. If you like ambient, you must own this album.
