Album

Thomas Chapin is featured on alto, soprano, flute, and baritone with his regular trio bassist Mario Pavone and drummer Michael Sarin augmented by three strings violinist Mark Feldman, cellist Boris Rayskin, and bassist Kiyoto Fujiwara. Feldman's heated solos and very active accompaniment of Chapin adds a great deal to the program, which consists of seven Chapin originals plus one song by Enrico Rava. 1 Haywire 11:31 2 Diva 5:31 The Devil's Hopyard 3 Eldolon 4:51 4 Bump In The Night 2:23 5 Hoofin' 9:47 6 Bugbears 11:26 7 At Peace With My Demons 8:45 - - 8 Geek Gawkin' 15:51. As far out as they get, Chapins bands and his tales always seem to hang together. Chapin plays like Chapin elsewhere, too. His bumptious baritone rocks and reels on Geek Gawkin' with Mark Feldmans freaky hoedown and his suave mezzo-soprano sax sounds eerily like a lead viola on Diva, the only non-original, a voluptuous, memorable waltz by Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava.
